The falls powered much of Patersons 18th century manufacturing. EarthCam and the City of Paterson proudly present a live webcam view of the Great Falls, part of a US National Park. General George Washington even picnicked by the waterfall with the Marquis de Lafayette, Alexander Hamilton, and James McHenry during the Revolutionary War on July 10, 1778. The falls powered much of Patersons 18th century manufacturing, allowing the city to utilize natural resources for industrial development and urban planning. The success of this ambitious plan served to support the United States’ economic independence.
